What is the Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network?
The Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network is a partnership between Tasmanet and the Huon Valley Council. The network aims to provide broadband services comparable to those available in the Hobart CBD via wireless technology to residential and business consumers throughout the Huon Valley and Bruny Island areas.
Why do I need this service?
With almost all businesses and individuals now requiring some level of internet access, Tasmanet and the Huon Valley Council are working to ensure that individuals and businesses in the Huon Valley area have access to the same quality of services available in the CBD. Tasmanet is a 100% Tasmanian owned and operated internet service provider committed to ensuring regional businesses and residents are able to enjoy the same conveniences of wireless internet access available in the CBD.
How do I find out if I can be connected?
Residents and businesses interested in connecting to the network are encouraged to contact a Tasmanet sales consultant for a free consultation on 1300 792 711 in order to verify that they can be connected to the network. Following this consultation an application form must be lodged with Tasmanet, application forms and submission information can be collected from the Huon Valley Council.
Note: As the network is a wireless technology homes surrounded by large trees or located in areas with minimal coverage may be subject to special requirements. This can be discussed following the initial consultation.
What are the primary goals of the project?
- To provide all residents (irrespective of location) the opportunity to take advantage of high speed Broadband technology
- To meet business and industry needs in terms of access to high speed Broadband capability
- To improve the quality of service delivery by a range of service providers throughout the Huon Valley utilising improved access to Broadband technology
Are all areas covered?
Information regarding the current coverage provided by the Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network is available from the Huon Valley Council or by contacting Tasmanet. Tasmanet and the Huon Valley Council are currently working with local businesses and the community in planning further expansion of the network.
What are the prices?
Prices for the Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network are competitive with all major internet service providers within Hobart and the surrounding areas. A price list of services can be found in the Council Chambers or online at www.tasmanet.com.au/huon/pricing-and-rates.html
Will the network and services be expanded?
Tasmanet and the Huon Valley Council plan to expand the coverage and upgrade the speed of the Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network subject to demand and viability.
Do I need a phone line?
Connecting to the Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network simply requires a small dish to be installed on the roof of a location; this is a directional antenna that points to a tower supporting the network, eliminating the need for a phone line.
Can I run a voice call over my Regional Access Connection?
Yes, the connections provided by the Huon Valley Regional Wireless Network can support VoIP. The project does not supply these services but they can be purchased from VoIP suppliers.
